SHS Band Members,
During this time of uncertainty and apprehension related to so many aspects of our lives, we want to reassure you that our #1 goal is to have all of our students, friends, and families safe and healthy. The safety of our people is always our top priority. Please be smart. We, as a society have built so much of our lives around interaction, and it will be very difficult for us to be severely limited in this capacity.
We are all hoping and praying that the scope of this pandemic is limited in ways that dramatically affect our community and that we will be allowed to return to “normal” one day soon. However, as it is our nature as educators to try to glean life lessons around every corner, we are reminded of an age old need to be thankful and grateful for what we have in our lives. Something as small as the ability to see each other on a daily basis now becomes very valuable. Cherish the time you have with people. Something as routine as a Spring Concert or an All State Clinic or a Concert Festival (CPA) cancellation reminds us that the time we spend making music is something to never take for granted. Ultimately, it becomes all the more important that we value and hold on to the process of preparing, growing musically and personally, and that we always remember to allow the journey together to fulfill us as we work together toward goals, even if those goal performances are taken from us. Cherish everyday time that adds up to a collective experience to remember. Without a doubt, the experiences we have had are incredibly memorable, and it is all our prayer that those experiences get to continue, especially for our seniors and our remaining time with them. We encourage you to reflect on all those experiences during this time and remember that you have an entire family of SHS Band members, parents, staff, directors, alumni, community members, fans, and friends who are all pulling for you and with you that we get to the other side of this all, together, and SOON. We encourage you to think and behave selflessly at home and remember that this is going to tax many of your families and stress many of your parents who are trying to figure out how to provide for YOU. Help them in small ways every day. Remember what’s important and be the amazing people we know you to be. INTEGRITY SHINES IN ADVERSITY. This is one time for you all to shine. Now, GO PRACTICE! ❤️😀
